"Creativity is paradoxical. To create, a person must have knowledge but forget the knowledge, must see unexpected connections in things but not have a mental disorder, must work hard but spend time doing nothing as information incubates, must create many ideas yet most of them are useless, must look at the same thing as everyone else, yet see something different, must desire success but embrace failure, must be persistent but not stubborn, and must listen to experts but know how to disregard them." - Michael Michalko, Twelve Things You Were Not Taught in School About Creative Thinking, Psychology Today
An (almost) daily conversation about my process of preparation to apply for acceptance to the MFA Acting programs at Juilliard, NYU-Tisch and the Yale School of Drama in 2012.

Hey my name is Chris Harral! I just started reading your blog the day before you auditioned (your brother posted a link on facebook). I am actually auditioning for colleges next month and yesterdays post was really encouraging to me. I identified with so many of the things you said about the process, nerves, and all the little thoughts that creep into the mind when auditioning! The undergraduate program at Tisch is one of the schools that I will be auditioning for, so I definitely felt very connected as I was reading. I did actually see you in Annie Get Your Gun some years ago with your family and you were great! You are talented and I am glad that you realize that even though things may not work out with NYU, Acting is a MUST. I feel the same way. The part about NYU being your "Golden Ticket" was really eye-opening. Sometimes I feel that way too, and it really isnt the reality. I definitely will try to be my own "Prince Charming" :)God has blessed you with so many amazing talents and a passion that will last a lifetime. Good luck on your endeavers and I hope to hear a success story!
ReplyDeleteThanks,
-Chris
